$100M Offers

Alex Hormozi Β· 2021

Make an offer so good people feel stupid saying no.

Hormozi's thesis: most businesses don't have a sales problem, they have an offer problem. He breaks value down into four levers and shows how to stack bonuses, guarantees, scarcity and naming until the price becomes a detail. The source of the Value Equation used on the canvas.

Key ideas
  • Value = dream outcome Γ— perceived likelihood Γ· (time delay Γ— effort & sacrifice).
  • Pick a starving crowd before you polish the offer.
  • Charge more and over-deliver: a premium price funds a better result.
  • List every obstacle the buyer will hit, then turn each one into a solution in the offer.

$100M Leads

Alex Hormozi Β· 2023

How to get strangers to want to buy your stuff.

The sequel: once the offer is right, you need engaged leads. Hormozi reduces lead generation to four core actions β€” warm outreach, posting content, cold outreach and paid ads β€” then four ways to multiply them through others (referrals, employees, agencies, affiliates). Very practical for taking pipeline generation out of the founder's network.

Key ideas
  • The 'Core Four': warm outreach, content, cold outreach, paid ads.
  • Lead magnets solve a narrow problem and reveal the next one your offer solves.
  • Do more volume, more consistently, before you optimise.
  • Scale by getting others to run the Core Four for you.

The Qualified Sales Leader

John McMahon Β· 2021

Proven lessons from a five-time CRO.

John McMahon, the sales leader behind the MEDDIC lineage, writes for managers: how to qualify ruthlessly, run deal reviews that actually change outcomes and coach reps to think like the buyer. The core message: a forecast is only as good as the qualification behind it.

Key ideas
  • Qualify out early: time spent on bad deals is stolen from good ones.
  • Find the pain, the champion and the economic buyer β€” or you don't have a deal.
  • Deal reviews are coaching, not interrogation.
  • Hire for intellectual curiosity and coachability.

Cracking the Sales Management Code

Jason Jordan & Michelle Vazzana Β· 2011

The secrets to measuring and managing sales performance.

You can't manage revenue directly β€” you can only manage the activities that produce it. Jordan and Vazzana separate business results, sales objectives and sales activities, and show managers which metrics they can actually act on. The backbone of the canvas' Scorecard block.

Key ideas
  • Results are lagging; manage the leading activities.
  • Map each metric to a process: call management, opportunity, account, territory.
  • Fewer metrics, reviewed on a fixed cadence, beat a dashboard nobody reads.
  • Coaching on activities is the manager's highest-leverage job.

Revenue Architecture

Jacco van der Kooij (Winning by Design) Β· 2023

New strategies for sustainable growth in recurring revenue.

Winning by Design's founder models the revenue engine as a system: the Bowtie, where acquisition is only the left half and retention and expansion drive the right. Math, data models and conversion rates per stage replace gut feeling. Why the canvas ends with Customer Success & Expansion.

Key ideas
  • Recurring revenue compounds: impact after the sale matters as much as the sale.
  • Define each stage by the customer's progress, not your activity.
  • Measure volume, conversion and time at every stage of the Bowtie.
  • Growth problems are system problems β€” fix the weakest stage first.

SPIN Selling

Neil Rackham Β· 1988

The research-backed classic on large-deal discovery.

Based on 35,000 observed sales calls, Rackham shows that what closes small deals hurts large ones. In complex sales, the buyer must state the need themselves β€” and four question types get them there: Situation, Problem, Implication, Need-payoff. Still the best basis for a discovery script.

Key ideas
  • Few Situation questions: do your homework before the call.
  • Implication questions turn a small problem into a costly one.
  • Let the buyer say the benefit out loud (Need-payoff).
  • Objections are mostly caused by pitching too early.

The First-Time Manager: Sales

Mike Weinberg Β· 2023

From top rep to sales manager without losing the team.

A short, direct guide for the person who just got promoted β€” or the founder who suddenly manages reps. Weinberg covers the mindset shift, the weekly rhythm (one-on-ones, pipeline reviews, team meetings), coaching in the field and holding people accountable without micromanaging.

Key ideas
  • Your job is no longer to sell: it's to make others sell.
  • Protect a fixed weekly cadence of one-on-ones and pipeline reviews.
  • Coach in the field, live, more than in the office.
  • Clear expectations first, then accountability.

The Sales Acceleration Formula

Mark Roberge Β· 2015

Using data, technology and inbound selling to go from $0 to $100 million.

HubSpot's first sales leader treats the sales team as an engineering problem. Four formulas: hire with a scored profile, train with a repeatable programme, manage with metrics-driven coaching and generate demand with inbound. The playbook for hiring your first builders the right way.

Key ideas
  • Define the hiring profile, score every candidate, then correlate with results.
  • Coachability was the strongest predictor of success.
  • Coach one skill at a time, chosen from the rep's metrics.
  • Align sales and marketing with a shared, numeric SLA.

Chief Accountability Officer

Emeric Ernoult

The operating system every CEO needs to build, manage and grow a high-performing executive team.

Written by the founder of Agorapulse, for founders who must stop being the bottleneck. The CEO's role becomes making the leadership team accountable: clear ownership, explicit expectations and a management rhythm that holds without the founder in every meeting. The other side of the canvas' Founder transfer block.

Key ideas
  • Delegating a task isn't delegating ownership.
  • Write down what 'good' looks like for each leader.
  • A shared operating rhythm beats heroic interventions.
  • The CEO's job: hold the team accountable, not do their job.
